Reflection: I have, Who has?
Tuesday 31st July: LI:We are learning to measure elapsed time. SC: I can determine how much time has passed by using a t-chart or number line.
Warm Up: Race Around The Clock
A: Mum confiscates my fidget spinner at 3:18pm and doesn’t give it back until 7:30pm. How long did I have to survive without it? B: At 2:19pm Miss Brown feels sad because she realises it has been 4 hours and 20 minutes since she last saw her friend Mrs Long. What time had she last seen her?
Group 1: LI:We are learning to understand clocks and tell time to the minute.
SC: I can make a clock and explain all the features. Group 2: LI:We are learning to convert between units of time
SC: I can use my knowledge of seconds, minutes and hours to convert between these units, and can explain why my answer is logical.
Group 3: LI: We are learning to understand time zones
SC: I can explain what time zones are and can calculate the time in different time zones.
Introduction: How many hours left of school are there this week?
How would you work this out? Discuss and calculate.
Now… how could we calculate how many minutes of school we have left? Discuss and calculate.
When converting between units of time it’s important to know: 1 minute = 60 seconds 1 hour = 60 minutes 1 day = 24 hours
...and to check that the answer is logical!
Group 1: With Mr. Blain Using the mini clocks get the students to make different times to refresh their memory of how to tell the time. And then: Telling Time Bingo
Introduction: Group 2 you are going to watch this video and then can start reading the expectations of your task for today and tomorrow.
Group 1: Show this YouTube example of a Stop Motion video of an analogue clock working.
Activities: Group 1: Jade, Jayda, Sarah, Connor, Kya, Logan Today you will be working with a partner to make a stop motion movie showing your clock hands moving. You will need to make the hands move around to show a full rotation of 12 hours. You need to include the following times, labelled (ie: make a piece of paper appear at these times naming the time).
-o’clock -half past -quarter past -quarter to -twenty past -twenty to -a time that ends in a 5 -a time that ends in a 3 -a time that ends in a 7
Group 2: Everyone Else
1. Watch this video (do this while the rest of the class are doing the introduction. You will need to use these websites to help you find your answers:
Group 1 LI:We are learning to understand clocks and tell time to the minute. SC: I can make a clock and explain all the features.
Group 2: LI: We are learning to understand time zones SC: I can explain what time zones are.
Warm Up: Maths War
Introduction: interactive clock Looking at this clock, what can you tell the class about clocks?
How do clocks work?
How do you remember the minute hand and the hour hand?
Group 1: Jade, Jayda, Sarah, Connor, Kya, Logan (With Mr Blain) We are going to have a closer look at clocks and practise telling the time. I am going to tell you to make a time and I want you to do that on your clock. We will then discuss the answer and how we were able to work it out. Students then make own clock using this resourcediscuss clock features along the way.
Group 2: Everyone Else Watch Maths Online 4947 “Time Zones and Travel” and complete the questions. Then: Work through these activities about international time zones.
Reflection: Review corrected pre-assessment task and set individual goals.
