Intro Today we are going to be reading part of a book in collaborative groups (also called Reciprocal Reading). Does anybody know what the word ‘Reciprocal’ means? How can the word ‘reciprocal’ apply to reading in collaborative groups?
For this task, each group will have four students (allocated by me), and each student will have a role (allocated by you and your group). Roles:
Predictor
Clarifier
Questioner
Summariser
Before we start getting into our groups and allocating roles though, let’s have a think or brainstorm about what you think each role entails? What might someone who is a ‘Predictor’ need to do to undertake their role properly? We will ask the same questions about the Clarifier, Questioner and Summariser.
I have selected a text for your group to read according to what I think is most appropriate and you are going to read it together, taking in turns of reading a paragraph aloud at a time. You will need to find a reasonably quiet space, as you are going to be recording the conversations you have between your group.
So, every time someone in your group speaks, or undertakes their RR role, you need to press record on the iPad. When you are not speaking to each other, and just reading the text, please make sure you press pause (that could make for some boring viewing!). It is important that you delegate this recording role to someone in your group who is not forgetful, and someone who knows they can air drop the video once completed, as this is how you will be sharing your work with me.
You are not only going to be recording yourselves talking with each other, you are also going to be recording your thoughts on this RR Comprehension sheet .
When the Predictor makes a prediction about the text, they will record it on the sheet, when the Questioner asks a question they will record it on the sheet, as well as recording the answers and/or discussion around that question, and so on. You only need one sheet between each group and you are to fill out your section when required.
Remember: Pause the recording while you are just reading!!!
Conclusion:
You should have multiple recordings, so you will need to put them into iMovie please, so that your group only has to share one video with me. The video recorder in each group needs to air drop the video to me.
Please give recording sheets to your teacher.
